Integrating Sustainability – MEP Engineering as a Career
JCT College of Engineering and Technology | 22 January 2026
Program Overview
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, organized an induction program titled “Integrating Sustainability – MEP Engineering as a Career” on 22 January 2026.
The program was organized to provide students with fundamental knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Engineering and its growing significance in modern mechanical and building industries.
Objective of the Program
The primary objective of the induction program was to introduce students to MEP Engineering and demonstrate how sustainability principles are being integrated into the design and operation of modern buildings.
The program provided insights into sustainable engineering practices, emerging technologies and career opportunities associated with energy-efficient HVAC, renewable energy, water management and intelligent building systems.
Welcome Address
Dr. M. Bhuvaneshwaran, Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of gaining exposure to emerging engineering technologies and sustainable practices.
Mr. R. Mahendran, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, introduced and invited the Chief Guest for the technical session.
Understanding Sustainable MEP Engineering
The resource person explained the importance and significance of MEP Engineering in modern industries and infrastructure development.
Integrating sustainability into Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems focuses on reducing environmental impact while improving building performance through energy-efficient HVAC systems, renewable energy integration, efficient lighting and water-saving technologies.
Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Students were introduced to the role of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in modern MEP engineering. BIM enables engineers to digitally design, coordinate, simulate and optimize building systems before implementation.
The session explained how BIM-based workflows can support the development of efficient and sustainable buildings by improving coordination between mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and helping engineers evaluate system performance.
