Programme Overview
The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) and Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Cell of JCT College of Engineering and Technology successfully organized the Cyber Shiksha Programme, an awareness initiative conducted exclusively for girl students.
The programme aimed to empower students with knowledge and practical awareness about cyber safety, digital security and responsible online practices, helping them understand and safeguard themselves against various cyber threats in today's digital environment.
Inauguration and Welcome
The programme commenced at 11:00 AM with the traditional Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Jafia C., III CSE.
A graceful Welcome Dance was presented by Ms. Roshitha, III AI & DS and Ms. Roshini, II AI & DS, adding a cultural element to the programme.
Presidential Address
Dr. S. Manoharan, Principal, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of cyber awareness among young women. He encouraged students to use digital platforms responsibly, remain vigilant online and adopt secure digital practices in their everyday lives.
Introduction to Cyber Shiksha
Following the felicitation ceremony, the Chief Guests were introduced by Ms. Akalya, II ECE and Ms. Jafia C., III CSE.
The technical sessions began with Ms. Parnika Gupta, Chairperson, FICCIFLO Coimbatore, who provided an introduction to the Cyber Shiksha Programme. She explained the objectives and significance of the initiative and highlighted the importance of cyber literacy among women and students.
She encouraged the participants to become digitally responsible citizens and remain alert while accessing online platforms and digital services.
Understanding Cyber Threats
The second session was delivered by Ms. Rachel Premnath, Director, PPTS. She provided detailed insights into different forms of cybercrime and the risks faced by individuals while using digital platforms.
The session covered important cyber threats including:
- Phishing attacks
- Online scams
- Identity theft
- Cyberbullying
- Social media fraud
Practical safety measures and best practices were also discussed to help students protect their personal information and online identities.
Interactive Cyber Awareness Workshop
The programme concluded with an interactive workshop conducted by Ms. Theepika J., Founder & CEO, Vetri Tech Solutions. The session focused on practical approaches to maintaining safety and security while using digital platforms.
Key areas discussed during the workshop included:
- Safe internet usage
- Password security
- Digital privacy
- Responsible use of social media
- Identifying suspicious online activity
- Responding appropriately to cyber threats
Through engaging activities and real-life examples, the students gained practical understanding of how to identify potential cyber risks and respond to suspicious online situations. The interactive format also encouraged students to ask questions and actively participate in the learning process.
Student Participation
More than 150 girl students actively participated in the programme along with women faculty members representing various departments of the institution.
The enthusiastic participation reflected the growing importance of cyber awareness and digital safety among students and highlighted the institution's efforts towards creating a safer and more digitally responsible campus community.
Coordination
The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. D. Vedha Vinodha, Coordinator, Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) and Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).
Vote of Thanks and Conclusion
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Lithanya, II Food Technology, who expressed sincere gratitude to the management, Principal, resource persons, women faculty members, organizing committee and students for their valuable contributions and active participation.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem. Overall, the Cyber Shiksha Programme provided an informative and interactive platform for students to understand cyber threats, strengthen their digital safety awareness and adopt responsible online practices.
