Event Overview

The Department of Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering at JCT College of Engineering and Technology (Autonomous), in association with the Coimbatore Cancer Society, successfully organized a “Cancer Awareness Program” on 3 February 2026 at the JCT Seminar Hall.

The program was organized in connection with World Cancer Day, observed on 4 February, with the theme “United by Unique.” The initiative aimed to increase awareness about cancer while promoting prevention, early detection, timely treatment, compassion, and social responsibility.

Objective of the Program

The primary objective of the program was to create greater awareness among students about cancer, its causes, prevention, early detection, and available treatment approaches.

The program also encouraged students to understand the importance of health awareness and the role individuals and communities can play in supporting people affected by cancer.

Keynote Address

Dr. S. Manoharan, Principal, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, delivered the keynote address and emphasized the importance of awareness, education, prevention, and timely medical intervention in addressing cancer.

The address also highlighted the responsibility of educational institutions and students in spreading awareness and contributing positively to society.

Cancer Awareness Session

Medical experts from the Coimbatore Cancer Society participated in the program and conducted informative awareness sessions for the students.

The experts shared valuable information about the causes and risk factors associated with cancer, the importance of recognizing warning signs, early detection, preventive measures, and developments in modern treatment methods.

A Gesture of Humanity and Social Responsibility

As part of the program, students of the Department of Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering demonstrated their commitment to humanity and social responsibility through a meaningful contribution toward cancer care.

In the presence of the Principal, Dr. S. Manoharan, the students donated ₹5,000 to support a cancer patient. The contribution was made to assist with treatment and patient support.

The initiative reflected the students' compassion and willingness to contribute to the well-being of people facing serious health challenges. Their thoughtful gesture received appreciation from those present.

The Cancer Awareness Program successfully enhanced awareness among students about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment while also emphasizing compassion and community support.
