Program Overview
The Department of Food Technology, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, organized a seminar titled “Training on Technology Commercialization, Licensing & Transfer Practices & Procedures” on 26 November 2025.
The program was conducted under the IIC Sub-Theme: R&D Awareness and Capacity Building with the objective of enhancing students' understanding of how research outcomes and innovative ideas can progress toward commercially viable technologies and products.
Objective of the Seminar
The seminar aimed to introduce students to the processes involved in transforming research outcomes into commercially viable technologies. It provided participants with an understanding of the journey from innovation and intellectual property protection to licensing, industry collaboration and technology transfer.
The program also encouraged students to view research not only as an academic activity but as a potential pathway toward developing practical solutions that can create value for industry and society.

From Research to Commercialization
Dr. A. Allwyn Sundaraj delivered an insightful technical session explaining the different stages involved in taking research and innovation beyond the laboratory and toward practical commercialization.
The session provided an in-depth overview of technology commercialization pathways, Intellectual Property Rights, patent filing, licensing models, Technology Readiness Levels and technology transfer procedures.

Understanding Technology Readiness Levels

Hybrid & Interactive Learning
The seminar was conducted in hybrid mode, enabling participation from both on-campus and online attendees.
Students actively interacted with the resource person and clarified their questions related to patenting, licensing, intellectual property and transforming innovative ideas into market-ready products. The interactive format made the session engaging and practically relevant.
Innovation in Food Technology
The resource person emphasized the importance of innovation, research translation and industry collaboration within the Food Technology sector.
